The Chemex Glass Pour-Over Coffee Maker is made of non-porous Borosilicate glass, and is a simple design that’s easy to use.
It’s a very stylish hour glass shape container with a polished wood collar and a leather tie around the middle.
Some also come with a glass handle instead of the wood grip around the middle.
It’s also made in different sizes, going from 3 to 13 cups, so you can have coffee just for yourself or for a larger group of people.

Filters
The Chemex uses bonded filters, and these special filters can be bleached or natural.
They are extra thick and won’t fall apart when you remove them from the Chemex coffee maker
The filters will also remove any oils that might give a sour or bad taste to your coffee.
Also, because of using the glass chemex and filters, the coffee can be kept in the fridge with a cover on it and used later without losing any flavor.
With the filter paper the thicker 3 layered side should face where the spout is and before making your coffee pour some water over the filter paper to wet it, then toss out that water, and you’re ready to brew some coffee, or also you can wet down the filter with some hot tap water.
Accessories For The Chemex Glass Pour-Over Coffee Maker
To brew a really great coffee you will need a few extra supplies.
- Freshly roosted coffee beans
- A burr grinder to grind just before brewing
- A scale or measure to give your an accurate amount of coffee to water
- A kettle for pouring hot water
- And the Chemex bonded filter
Preparing Your Coffee
It takes about 2 level filled tablespoons of your coffee grinds to make a 5 ounce cup, and if you prefer it stronger than use more.
Once you have the amount of coffee grounds in your filter, pour some hot water over them, just enough to get them wet, then wait 30 seconds or so, for the coffee grounds to release the more desirable coffee flavors, this waiting period is called blooming.
The water should be about 200 F to pour over the grinds, after bringing water to a boil let it sit for 30 seconds, and that should be the right temperature.
After blooming, pour the amount of water required for the grounds starting in the center and slowly pouring the water circling to the outside of the filter until covered.
Continue adding water until your desired amount of coffee is reached.
Then remove the filter and grounds and enjoy a great cup of coffee.
The coffee grounds and the filter can be composted as well.
Serving The Coffee
Many coffee shops will pour some boiled water in your coffee cop to warm up the cup, then toss the water and serve your coffee.
Keeping Coffee Warm
After your coffee is made, you can keep it warm, by placing the chemex on a glass stove tap or gas flame at low heat.
If you have an electric stove with the heating coils, then you will need to the stainless steel wire grid between the Chemex and the coils, otherwise it could break and always keep coffee in the Chemex when its being kept warm.
Cleaning
The Chemex is easy to keep clean, you can use warm soap and water, or it can also be washed in the dishwasher.
Marks For Filling
On all the Chemex brewers, except for the pint size model, there is a button for telling you when it is half full, and when you reach the bottom of the wooden collar then it is full.
Also, if you brew more than one cup at a time, it will be better, as less heat will escape the brew.

I wonder if its would make a bi difference. I tell her that we need to find something very unique that not all have.

I am a coffee fanatic and if I don’t have my daily coffee I get very grumpy so something like the Chemex Coffeemaker looks great to me. For me it’s about the taste so if I can find one that makes my coffee just the way I like it then that is all that matters.
I also like the design of it very simple but works, the fact that it doesn’t keep your coffee piping hard is a tough one but I guess that’s a small price to pay for a great taste.
I might buy it as it’s under $50 which is affordable, I will come back to this post and comment on my experiences once I have tried it out.
Thanks for sharing this item,
